Peace Cafe Thanksgiving Meal

Thursday Evening was a special evening for the children in the Peace Program with LFFP. The Peace Cafe, which we host at Perry with the Peace room every Thursday, had a Thanksgiving Meal. The children were able to help prepare the coleslaw, fruit salad, and the PB&J cupcakes. The children struggled to not eat all the yummy treats as they prepared them, but they were so thrilled to be a part of the cooking process. The Peace Cafe, gives them a sense of awareness in the kitchen and service towards others by allowing the children to partake in the Cooking and cleaning processes as well as enjoying eating the food. There were lots of delicious choices for the children to sample such as: breaded chicken, corn, sweet potato and apples, coleslaw, fruit salad, two types of muffins, and the cupcakes for dessert. Before the children were able to eat we went through the LFFP Peace Pledge, a peace camp song, a short speech about Thanksgiving from a teacher at Perry, and a prayer given by the children. It was a great way to remind each person, child and volunteer, how important it is to be thankful for what we have, and those who care for us. It was a very positive experience for both the children and the volunteers. Everybody went home with a full belly, a smile on their face, and thanks in their heart.
